Google released the Android 2.2.1 update as a minor Android OS update. The Google Nexus One was the first smartphone to receive the OTA (Over The Air) update, with the Motorola Droid receiving the update shortly after. Other Android smartphones running Android 2.2 will be receiving the update soon.
Improvements
Google announced that the 2.2.1 update will include an updated Twitter application and improves its authentication process. The update also includes an improvement to the Gmail application, Exchange ActiveSync as well as refreshed Amazon News and Weather widgets. (Note from Marziah: The News and Weather widget had stopped retrieving new news items on my Nexus One prior to this update and would only say "news unavailable." The update seems to have fixed this problem. )
What's Next?
With the announcement of the Nexus S smartphone, they also released Android 2.3, known as Gingerbread. Beyond many operational improvements, the Android Market is receiving a makeover.
Stay tuned for more information on Gingerbread and continuing improvement and updates of the Android operating system.
