Google has some fantastic tools to help you search and track information. They get even better when you combine them.

One way to keep track of news items is to set a Google Alert. That works well if you like to get your alerts emailed to you. You can also make a custom edition of Google News.

If you're following news items, blogs, and other information streams, it starts to make sense to add them all to Google Reader.

To find the feed for your Google News items, go to Google News at news.google.com. Search for whatever news subject you'd like to track. Look on the bottom left side of the screen. You'll see a link marked RSS. Click on this link. This is the URL you can add to Google Reader
