Google created Android, a free operating system for mobile phones. Manufacturers can use Android for free, and Google has given app developers very few restrictions on what sort of applications they can create.
Android phones have a Web browser, a touch screen, Google search, Gmail, and Google Calendar. They can run multiple apps at the same time, and you can install desktop widgets. All of them require some sort of data plan, and all of them have access to apps from the Android App Store. Optional features include keyboards, the ability to check email on Microsoft Exchange servers, and customized software and user interfaces.
