Definition: Postini is a hosted communication service for businesses. The services include tools for managing Web sites, email, and instant messaging. Postini can be used to filter spam, encrypt messages for security, and archive electronic communications for compliance with data retention laws.

Google purchased the service in July of 2007 for $625 million in cash. The move is an effort to enhance the business appeal of Google Apps.

Postini can be found on the Web at www.postini.com. Postini is sold as both a separate product and a service add-on for Google Apps.
