How can I move my blog from one blogging platform to another?

By Marziah Karch, About.com

Question: How can I move my blog from one blogging platform to another?
I have a blog account on one platform, and I want to move it to another. How do I move all my posts?
Answer: Did you start with a Blogger account and now want to move it to WordPress? Do you have a LiveJournal account and want to move it Movable Type? Don't worry, there is a solution.

Google Blog Converters is an open source application to let you convert your blog to and from several different blogging platforms.

As of this writing, Blogger, LiveJournal, WordPress, and Movable Type are the supported platforms. In some cases you may need to convert your blog to Blogger before moving it to another platform.

Before you delete your old account, you should verify that your blog really did move and that you retained all your settings. Group owned blogs, blogs with private entries, and large blogs may be problematic.

This solution is not for the technically challenged, since it does involve using a command line.

Small Blog Converters:

If you have a small blog, you can convert it using a converter already hosted on Google App Engine. As of this writing, this will only work for blogs that contain under one megabyte of data.
