Definition: Google.org is Google's philanthropic branch. They aim to do charitable work with grants, lobbying efforts, and partnerships with business. Unlike most philanthropic organizations, Google.org has retained for-profit status with the IRS. This means they can invest in causes they deem worthwhile, such as renewable energy, and profit from the returns on their investment.

Google.org started a separate non-profit with tax-exempt status, Google Foundation. Google.org invests a portion of their profits in the Google Foundation.
