Apps Status Dashboard
The Apps Status Dashboard is a tool that tells you the status of Google Apps. If you start having a problem with any Google tool, even if you're not a Google Apps user, it's a good idea to check the Apps Status Dashboard to see if there is an issue.
Apps
Apps is an abbreviation for application. An app is a piece of software. It can run on the Internet, on your computer, or on your phone or other electronic device.
AdSense for Feeds
AdSense for Feeds is a program for AdSense that allows you to place ads in your RSS Feeds through FeedBurner. You can specify the appearance of ads, whether they appear at the top or bottom of posts, and how long an entry should be before it has an ad.
Avatar
An avatar is an electronic representation of a person for chats or online games. The name originally came from the Hindu term for the incarnation of a deity on Earth.
Google YouTube ActiveSharing
ActiveSharing is an experimental YouTube tool that allows you to broadcast the videos that you're watching to other users. This lists your user name on the videos that you watch and creates a mini-feed on your profile page.
Google Ad Traffic Quality Resource Center Definition
Google's Ad Traffic Quality Resource Center is a help center for AdWords advertisers and the general public. It contains information on click fraud prevention and detection.
AudioSwap
AudioSwap is a service of YouTube where you can switch the audio track on a video you upload to YouTube. The audio new track completely replaces the prior one; however, the new audio track will be used with complete permission of the copyright owners.
Arbitrage
Arbitrage is the practice of buying something in one market and selling it in another for profit. Stock brokers do this sometimes by buying stock X in Hong Kong and selling it in London for fifty cents more per share. AdSense arbitrage is the technique of buying cheap AdWords campaigns to direct traffic to pages optimized for expensive AdSense campaigns.
Adscape Media
Adscape Media was purchased by Google in March 2007 for an undisclosed sum. Adscape Media provides contextual advertising inside video games.
Applied Semantics
Applied Semantics was a Santa Monica, California based company that produced software for online advertising. Google purchased the company in April of 2003 and presumably used the technology to enhance AdWords and AdSense.
Android, Inc
Google acquired this startup company in 2005. Neither company gave many details about the company or the projects they were working on at the time of acquisition, other than saying they made software for mobile phones.
@Last Software, Inc
@Last Software, Inc is a software company purchased by Google. @Last Software creates SketchUp, which lets you create 3D software for Google Earth.
Accessible Web Search
Accessible Web Search is a Google powered search of websites for the visually impaired. Google uses Co-op feedback to improve the results to give priority to pages that function well without images or will otherwise be more useful to the visually impaired.
AdSense
AdSense is a Google system of advertising for blogs and other websites. Subscribers can insert fairly unobtrusive Google ads and earn revenue from the users who view the ads or click on them. The ads are targeted to the keywords on the web page.
AdWords
AdWords is the Google program that is the other end of AdSense. AdWords allows subscribers to pay for advertising on Google as both text and banner ads. The ads are targeted to keywords on the web page or search results page that displays the ad. This is Google’s main source of income.
Ajax
Ajax stands for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML. It's a Web programming technique that exchanges small amounts of information behind the scenes to speed up applications on the Web.
Alerts
Alerts are automatic messages generated when a user requests to be notified of new search results fitting their keyword criteria. Alerts can be generated for News, Web, News & Web, and Groups.
Allinanchor:
Allinanchor: is Google syntax to search only the link anchors of Web pages. Results are listed based on the text used in the backlinks of the page.
Allintext:
Allntext: is Google syntax for searching only in the body text of documents and ignoring links, URLs, and titles.
Allintitle:
Allintitle: finds Web pages that only contain all of the keywords in their title. The keyword should follow with no spaces.
Analytics
Analytics is a tool for webmasters who would like to analyze the visitors to their site. It provides information on where visitors originated, how long they stayed, and where they visited next. Analytics is currently by invitation only.
Anchor Text
Anchor text is the text that's used to create a link. Google will let you search within anchor text, and Google considers the anchor text of backlinks to determine the rank of pages in search results.
Answers
Google Answers allows you to ask a question, set a price, and have a pre-screened researcher answer the question for the set price. Previous answers are available for free.
