Google Gadgets Let Users Collaborate

Saturday April 12, 2008
Now this is probably the most useful thing to happen to my iGoogle page. Some Google gadgets now let users share the same set of data. What does that mean? It means people can use the gadget collaboratively, like Google Docs or Google Calendar. I could share my To-Do list with my team or my expense sheet with my husband.

Not all gadgets are enabled for collaboration, but not all of them need to be. Not all gadgets let you change data. Some of them just pull data from some other source, like weather reports or blog feeds.

I wonder how long it will be until developers specifically make gadgets with collaboration in mind. You could make gadgets like a chess game designed for two players. Share the gadget with your chess partner, and take turns whenever you check your iGoogle page.
