Where Does Google Find the Ideas?

What with Google Glass, self driving cars, and laptops that only run a Web browser, Google sure is coming up with a lot of crazy physical computing projects. Google, like many other companies, has a skunkworks where they research ideas and come up with zany ideas.  My favorite of their rumored projects? The space elevator.
