Google Voice First Thoughts

Thursday March 12, 2009
Google Voice Screen CaptureI converted my existing GrandCentral account to Google Voice, and I do like the new look. The interface looks like a Gmail for your voice mail, and I'm sure that was intentional. It's easier to navigate, and the website response time seems much faster.

I also love the idea of voice transcription, though I haven't had time to do a lot of testing to see how well it works. When you receive a transcribed voice mail message, you can tell Google how well you thought they did, so the server should theoretically get smarter with time.

Google Voice still doesn't handle numbers with extensions, and this is a huge problem for users with office phones.

Don't have GrandCentral? Google has been giving away a few Google Voice early invites on Twitter. That's certainly better than trying to buy one from eBay. Yikes. Save your money. They'll roll this out for everyone soon.
