Custom iGoogle Themes

Monday January 19, 2009
Google announced a new tool to let you build your own custom iGoogle themes using pictures you upload or have stored in Picasa Web Albums. You could make the themes public or private, so there could be some very interesting sharing of custom themes. Unfortunately, the link stopped working shortly after it was posted, so we'll have to wait to try this out for ourselves.

Not only do I really like the idea, I hope it's a concept they build on to let users create custom Google Sites themes without having to know XML. Yes, this could lead to some very disastrous MySpace-like illegible text over glittery backgrounds, but it could also lead to some very impressive design by people who otherwise would never have been able to customize their site.
