Google Docs Introduces Templates

Thursday July 17, 2008
In another step toward making Google Docs a viable alternative to desktop word processing applications, Google has introduced templates to Google Docs. The templates are available for both Google Docs and Google Apps. Just browse for a template and click the Use This Template button to get started.

There's quite an impressive collection of available templates. As of this writing, there are 309 templates available, including some that were created in conjunction with Avery and Visa Business.

Small business owners are the target audience for Google Apps, and it's not surprising that there are quite a few useful templates for them. There are a variety of business card and invoice templates and a project management template. Other users may want to look at the consumer debt management templates or the wedding planner.

There are even a few goodies for educators, like attendance rosters and grading sheets. Students have a class load scheduler, road trip planners, and a template to track expenses among apartment roommates.
