Google Introduces New iPhone Interface
Google sent out a press release this morning announcing "a new iPhone application." What this means is that anyone using an iPhone can go to www.google.com, and Google will display a special page set up just for iPhone users. I don't have an iPhone, but I do have an iPod Touch, which uses the same Web browser. I snapped this quick picture of the interface this morning.
I think it's a big improvement over Google's standard interface for mobile devices. The iPhone interface displays well both vertically and horizontally, and it has quick links at the top to search, Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Reader, which are the main Google applications most users would want to view from the Web browser on the iPhone. YouTube is already a separate button on the iPhone and iPod Touch.
The new interface also uses AJAX, so it's not using the wireless connection as much, which is a nice move for iPhone users stuck on slower data connections.
