Google Maps Lets You Create Your Own Maps

Monday April 9, 2007
Google Maps introduced a new feature that lets you make your own maps. You can add text, drawings, images, and even videos to Google Maps and publish them to as few or as many people as you'd like. I've been playing around with this, and it's a lot of fun.

I can see businesses using this to flesh out their campus buildings, individuals using this to give better driving directions to friends, and students doing this to learn about map making. It's also a creative way for Google to integrate some their existing services, Picasa Web Albums, Google Video, and YouTube.

A friend used google maps for getting directions from NY to London. Step 23 regarding swimming across the atlantic is pretty funny. I like that Google has a good sense of humor.

I’ve been wanting a better way to create my own maps, looking forward to trying it out.

Ha! I’d never noticed that. It does tell you to swim.

Thanks for the laugh!
