Blogger Eats Dog Food

Monday October 23, 2006
The official Blogger Beta blog took some time to discuss some of their recent public blunders. A couple weeks ago, they had someone hack the official Google blog and make a fake post. Last week, Google employee "spacegirl" accidentally posted items intended for her personal blog. The items are still visible in the RSS feed, but they've long since been deleted from the actual blog.

Google's point is that all their official blogs are on Blogger, so if there are security flaws and new bugs, they become aware of them pretty darn fast. They refer to this as "eating their own dogfood."[sic]

I have to say that I do appreciate the philosophy. I've had a lot of experience supporting software from companies that aren't eating their own dog food, and the difference is night and day. If you make software, be prepared to use that software.
