Google Maps Gets Coupons

Tuesday August 15, 2006
Google Maps will start showing coupons on local searches, thanks to an agreement with Valpak. This doesn't mean that you can search specifically for "coupons." It means that if you search for a local business that sells chicken, for instance, coupons may show up for the local chicken joint.

This is actually a really exciting development for business owners, because the printed coupons will give them proof of the efficacy of their online advertising. As a consumer, I say it's a good move, too, because it gives me a coupon for a place where I'm likely to shop, anyway. It's really win-win. I'll try to get a screen capture as soon as I find a coupon. If you see a coupon, let me know in the comments here, or write a message in the About Google forums.
