Google Buying News

Wednesday August 2, 2006
Google has just announced an agreement with the Associated Press for what they claim will be a new services. The AP previously insisted that Google News violated their copyright by quoting from news sources and showing copyrighted images in their results page. Google maintains that this is fair use and that they actually drive traffic to the websites to read the original news source.

I'm not a lawyer, but I agree with Google on this one. I've never searched for a news item and not clicked on at least one relevant news story, and often I end up at news sources I'd never have otherwise read, such as the newspaper reporting this story. It will be interesting to see what new product Google develops out of this deal.
