Video Ads

Tuesday July 18, 2006
Google announced today that click-to-play video ads were being released in the UK. The ads only play when the user clicks on them, and apparently they've already been tested in the US. Did I miss something? I've never seen a Google video ad. Have you?

Let's hope Google keeps to the tradition of unobtrusive advertising on this one. There's nothing more annoying than a loud video advertisement playing while I'm trying to search the web. Besides, I like the idea that advertisers have to actually make interesting ads.

Advertisers and others with a vested interest in Google seem to be a bit nervous. This is the first quarter in which Google's stock price did not hit a new high. You can't have double-digit growth every quarter, can you? Google will report earnings on July 20th, and speculation abounds about the results. Google's search engine share has continued to grow in the US for the eleventh straight month with 44.7 percent of all searches.
